Just a day after news about the ban on Xiaomi surfaced, the company has officially suspended sales in India.
Xiaomi has confirmed that it has temporarily suspended sales in India with immediate effect following directives from the Delhi High Court. The court had granted an injunction in the claim filed by Erricson for infringing the company’s Standard Essential Patents (SEPs). Xiaomi’s exclusive retailer, Flipkart, has also been made a party to the case.
The sudden ban would definitely affect Xiaomi in India. The company was supposed to hold sale for the Redmi Note on December 15, for which apparently one and half lakh customers have registered. Xiaomi has revealed that it is considering its options and has even initiated talks with Erricson.
Commenting about the ban, Hugo Barra, VP, Xiaomi Global, said, “We have been forced to suspend sales in India until further notice due to an order passed by the Delhi High Court. As a law abiding company, we are investigating the matter carefully and assessing our legal options.”
