Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi is all set to launch the Redmi Note 5 tomorrow in India. The Redmi Note 5 will be successor to the Redmi Note 4 that was launched in India last year and has been immensely successful for the company in India. However, alongside the Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi was also reported to launch the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India. And, just ahead of tomorrow’s launch, specifications and images of both these smartphones have surfaced online.
Let’s talk about the Redmi Note 5 first. As evident from the leaked material (see picture above), the design of the Redmi Note 5 isn’t all that different from that of the Redmi Note 4. However, the biggest change here is the display. While last year’s Redmi Note 4 came with a 5.5-inch Full-HD display with a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, the Redmi Note 5 comes with a 5.99-inch display that has an aspect ratio of 18:9.
That said, the Redmi Note 5 is still powered by the Snapdragon 625 chip and ships with a slightly smaller 4000 mAh battery.
Now, let’s move on to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 Pro (see picture above) looks like Apple’s iPhone X from the back as it sports a dual camera setup that’s located at the top-right corner in vertical orientation. However, the Redmi Note 5 Pro does come with a processor that’s better than what’s inside the Redmi Note 5. Well, the Redmi Note 5 Pro with the Snapdragon 636 chip which is paired with up to 6 GB RAM.
Apart from better processor and more RAM, the Redmi Note 5 Pro also comes with better optics. The Redmi Note 5 comes with 12 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera, whereas, the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 12 MP + 5 MP cameras at the back and a 20 MP camera on the front.
Having said that, it looks like Xiaomi will market the Redmi Note 5 in India as “India’s all-rounder”, whereas, the Redmi Note 5 Pro will be marketed as “India’s camera beast”. And, due to full-screen displays, both the smartphones will come with on-screen navigation buttons instead of capacitive navigation buttons that we have seen on Xiaomi’s budget and mid-range smartphones until now.
