Updated on March 15, 2018: Xiaomi in a post on Mi Community has confirmed that it has sold more than 5 Million units of the Redmi 5A in India.
Updated on March 13, 2018: We reached out to Xiaomi for a comment on this matter, but Xiaomi didn’t confirm that it already sold 5 Million units of the Redmi 5A in India.
Original Story: Xiaomi launched the Redmi 4A budget smartphone in India back in March last year. And then later in November, the company launched the Redmi 5A as a successor to the Redmi 4A. The Redmi 5A comes in two variants – 2 GB RAM + 16 GB storage and 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage. The former is priced at ₹5999 but was sold at a special price of ₹4999 until now. Well, not anymore, as the company has announced that the 2 GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A will now be sold at its original price of ₹5999.

At the time of launch, Xiaomi said that the first 5 Million units of the 2 GB RAM variant of Redmi 5A – whose original price is ₹5999 – will be sold at a discounted price of ₹4999. And, the company would go back to the original price once they have sold 5 Million units of the Redmi 5A in the country.
Well, the smartphone went on its first sale on December 7, and then in January, Xiaomi announced that it sold more than 1 Million units of the Redmi 5A in India in less than a month. So, does selling the phone at its original price of ₹5999 mean that Xiaomi managed to sell 4 Million units of the Redmi 5A in India in two months? Well, we can only wait for Xiaomi to chime in on that.
Anyways though, if you are interested in buying the Redmi 5A, you can head over to Mi.com or Flipkart. The 3 GB RAM variant of the Redmi 5A is also sold through offline stores, but, it’s priced at ₹7499, which is ₹500 more than its online price.
