Microsoft recently detailed the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 and as we expected, the update is available to download today for ‘developers’.
While most of the Windows Phone users are still awaiting Windows Phone 8.1 on their devices, people can easily get the new Update 1 by signing up for the App Studio and then installing ‘Preview for Developers’. If you are on Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, you don’t need to do anything, as the update is now available for you over-the-air.
The update expands Cortana availability to China in a brand new form and UK. Cortana hits India, Australia and Canada as well albeit in an alpha form. The most visual change that Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 brings is the new Live Folders on Start Screen. Microsoft calls it Live Folders because it still shows you live tile updates.
The update brings improvements to the Xbox Music app and a new Store tile, which shows you a new app every 6 hours. There’s ability to select multiple messages, a new App Corner (similar to Kids Corner). The update brings support for new display resolutions – 960x540p and 1280x800p for 7-inch displays along with VPN, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 (for the Lumia 930 and 1520 and future devices), smart interactive cases to support upcoming devices like the ‘One M8 for Windows’ and Bluetooth AptX support.
