Back in November last year, we heard that WhatsApp for iPad was in works, however, the app still isn’t out and there’s no word from WhatsApp on whether or not there will ever be an app for iPad. Well, while there’s no WhatsApp app for iPad, current reports suggest that WhatsApp for iPad, whenever it comes out, will support voice calling.
📞 WHATSAPP FOR IPAD:
WhatsApp for iPad will support voice calls!.. are voice calls coming for WhatsApp Web/Desktop too? 😇
— WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) February 8, 2018
This information comes from WABetaInfo who keeps a track of upcoming and under-development features of WhatsApp. And, apart from supporting voice calls in WhatsApp for iPad, WABetaInfo says that we should also expect the company to support voice calls on WhatsApp Web and Desktop as well.
“In according to our recent discoveries, WhatsApp is currently working to implement voice calls in the new upcoming iPad app, that we remember it will be necessary to have your iPhone connected to the Internet, seen that it will work like WhatsApp Web, but with a redesigned interface.” said WABetaInfo in a post.
That said, WABetaInfo has also found some references that hint towards video calling support in WhatsApp Web. However, there’s not much information about video calling in WhatsApp Web, hence, take this bit with a pinch of salt.
We should know more about WhatsApp for iPad and other aforementioned features in the coming months. Also, in related news, WhatsApp has started beta testing its UPI-based Payments service in India on both Android and iPhone. This feature lets WhatsApp users send and receive money from within the app. This feature is India specific and should roll-out to all the users soon.
