WhatsApp had been recently pulled from the Windows Phone Store citing issues and the Windows Phone community was starting to get restless but thankfully, it’s back. WhatsApp for Windows Phone is back and it brings a nice update along with it.
The new update fixes the issues we had with WhatsApp on Windows Phone. The app feels a lot smoother and notifications seem more reliable. The update brings chat backgrounds, now you can set a wallpaper as background in the chats. You can choose from the background gallery or you can choose from albums. There’s also Privacy settings, which allow you to disable the “last seen at” feature and also hide your profile picture from people if you want.
The update also brings broadcast lists and the ability to set when you want to auto download media. You can choose to auto-download when in WiFi or WiFi and cellular or WiFi or cellular or roaming or you can put it off altogether. There’s custom notification tones as well but you’ll need to have atleast Windows Phone 8 Update 3 (GDR3) to use that. There are also various enhancements and bug fixes.
All in all, we are glad the app is finally back on the Store and the new features should surely calm down the angry folks out there. The version number of the app is 2.11.490 and you can hit the Windows Phone Store link below and get the update. Do tell us, how you like the new WhatsApp for Windows Phone update?
