Two days ago, Chinese smartphone brand Vivo launched the Vivo X21 that looks like iPhone X and also has a variant that comes with in-display fingerprint scanner. Now today, Vivo has launched the Vivo V9 that we have been hearing of since the past few weeks.
Announcing the Vivo V9 was nothing more than a formality for Vivo as Vivo India already leaked all the details of the V9 last week on its official website. The Vivo V9 looks exactly the same as the Vivo X21, which in turn, like we already said, looks like the iPhone X – thanks to that notch up top.
That said, the Vivo V9 features a 6.3-inch full-screen display that has a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. Well, this helps Vivo achieve a screen-to-body ratio of 90%. Moving on to the back, you have a dual camera setup in top-left corner in vertical orientation which again reminds us of the iPhone X.
However, while the iPhone X doesn’t come with any fingerprint scanner, either on the back or front, the Vivo V9 does come with one on its back.
And, speaking about that dual camera setup at the back, it’s a combination of one 16 MP and one 5 MP cameras which support “AI Bokeh” mode that let you take photos with blurred background. Moving on to the front again, there’s a 24 MP camera which comes with features like AI Face Beauty Mode, AR Stickers, and, lighting effects.
The AI Face Beauty Mode using Artificial Intelligence to determine the age, sex and skin tone on the person to take selfies. Whereas, the AR Stickers lets you take photos with different effects similar to what you might have seen in Instagram and Snapchat.
Having said that, the Vivo V9 also comes with AI Face Access which uses face recognition to unlock your smartphone. However, this feature can also be used to unlock secured apps. Besides, there’s also a feature called AI Attention Sensing which determines whether you are looking at the phone or not to reduce the notification volume.
Speaking about the innards, unlike the Vivo X21 which comes with Snapdragon 660 SoC and 6 GB RAM, the Vivo V9 has Snapdragon 626 SoC running the show that’s paired with 4 GB RAM. The smartphone boots up to Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box which is layered with Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 atop.
In terms of storage, you get 64 GB of on board space, but you also have the option to expand the storage up to 256 GB via microSD card. Lastly, keeping this entire package up and running is a 3260 mAh battery.
