Toshiba has entered the tablet market with its Thrive tablet which is now up for pre-order in the US at $430 for the 8GB version. There are also 16GB and 32GB models priced at $480 and $580 respectively.
The Thrive has a NVIDIA 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor, Android Honeycomb 3.1 OS, 10.1 inch touch screen display, a full sized HDMI port, a full-sized SD card slot, 5-megapixel camera at the back and a 2-megapixel camera in the front, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, a USB 2.0 port and a mini USB as well. The company is also offering a docking station for $59.99 that has power, HDMI, two USB 2.0 ports and a 3.5mm audio output. The Thrive will be available in 6 different back covers (Black, Blue, Purple, Grey, Green, Pink) which is covered in rubberized plastic material for better grip.
Hopefully we’ll be getting the tablet in India too and we can expect the 8GB model to be around Rs. 20,000/-, which could be a good deal. Toshiba has a big laptop and netbook market in India, and the introduction of the tablet could be a major addition to the company’s portfolio in the country.
