One of the reason to brag about owning a Nexus device is that it is the first device to receive an Android update. Be it an Android version update or a security patch, if you own an Android device, you will be the first to get your hands on it.
But, if you think that Google will keep pushing updates to your Nexus device forever, then you are wrong. Google has listed out the Nexus devices with the dates after which they will stop receiving an update from Google.
Going by the list, the current generation Nexus devices, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will keep receiving guaranteed updates from Google till September next year. However, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will receive their last updates in October this year.
A Nexus device receives Android version updates for at least two years from the date of its availability on Google Play Store. However, security patches are rolled out till 3 years from availability or 18 months from when the last device was sold on Google Store, whichever is longer.
Google uploading this list on the support page also means that we can expect a new Nexus device (devices ?) to be announced soon. What do you think? Do you own a Nexus device, if so, which one?
