We haven’t really heard much of the “Vaio” brand after Sony sold off the entity to Japanese Industrial Partners (JIP) but that might change soon. Reportedly, a new Vaio branded smartphone is in the works.
The latest news from the rumor mill is that we’ll see a Vaio smartphone getting unveiled on March 12. We also get to know Sony did not part ways with Vaio totally, as the company still has a 5% stake in the Vaio brand. This leads us to be believe that the new Vaio smartphone might well be in partnership with Sony. The report comes from a Japanese publication, which has also revealed the specs of the device.
We don’t know the name of the Vaio smartphone yet but it is said to be coming with a 5-inch HD (1280x720p) display and it’ll be powered by the 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor with 2 GB RAM. The device is also said to be packing 16 GB internal storage and the camera is tipped to be a 13 MP one on the rear and a 5 MP unit on the front. Android 5.0 Lolliopop should be running the show.
This should be great news for the fans of the Vaio branding and Sony but we’ll ask you to take this news with a pinch of salt. We should know pretty soon if the rumor is true or not, come March 12.
