While the Galaxy Gear smart watch is now compatible with the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4, the company is now pushing an update to other flagship smartphones.
Samsung would be rolling out a software update for the Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy S4 Zoom starting from November, which would make the devices compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch. There would be separate updates for the smartphones rolling out.
The Samsung Galaxy Gear allows users with compatible Samsung handsets to make or answer calls and view incoming messages at a glance without touching the smartphone. The smart watch, which was launched recently in India, is priced at Rs. 22990. However, due to the limited supply, it is very difficult to get the smart watch at the Samsung store in India.
Speaking about the software update, Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Mobiles at Samsung Electronics, said, “The Galaxy Gear is designed and optimized for use with other Galaxy devices to create a seamless experience for our users. Extending the Galaxy Gear compatibility to six Galaxy devices reflects our commitment to delivering more Samsung smartphone users with enhanced flexibility and freedom, thus enriching their mobile experience.”
