Samsung Pay, which was availed to early access registrants in India earlier this month, will be launched officially by Samsung on March 22 in India.
Samsung has started sending out press invites to media for the launch event scheduled on March 22 i.e., tomorrow. The invite (pictured above) doesn’t reveal much details though but only says “Samsung is ready with the Next Revolution“. The invite also says “One which is simple, secure and almost everywhere” which hints at nothing but Samsung Pay.
Samsung started teasing the Samsung Pay in India from January after it rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in the country. The company also opened up registrations for the early access program earlier this month and later availed it to early access registrants with support for Paytm.
Samsung Pay in India is currently compatible with Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy A7 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017), Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A5 (2016). Also, as of now, you need a debit/credit card from Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Standard Chartered Bank or State Bank of India to be able to use Samsung Pay. Cards from American Express and Citi Bank will be supported soon.
For those unaware, Samsung Pay is similar to Android Pay and Apple Pay. You can make payments using above mentioned Samsung smartphones through Samsung Pay. The payments can be done either through MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) or NFC (Near Field Communication).
While Samsung Pay currently only supports some high-end, premium devices, there were reports that Samsung Pay would come to non-premium Samsung smartphones as well in India. Well, we will know more about Samsung’s plans tomorrow when its makes the Samsung Pay official in India.
