Samsung has just announced the successor to the last year’s Galaxy S4 zoom and as it was rumored, it’s called the Samsung Galaxy K zoom. The K is for Kamera in German, in case you were thinking why the K.
Samsung has announced the device in Singapore at its “Kapture the Moment” event. The Galaxy K zoom according to Samsung is a camera specialized-smartphone. The device is a decent smartphone with some decent specs and a camera unit found on mid-range point and shoots. Let’s get into the specs of the device, shall we?
The Galaxy K zoom features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD (1280×720) display and it’s powered by the hexa-core Exynos chipset (1.3GHz Quad-Core + 1.7GHz Dual-Core Processor) coupled with 2 gigs of RAM. There’s 8 GB of internal storage with microSD support for up to 64 GB memory cards.
The highlight of the device is the camera and on paper, it seems pretty good. There’s a 20.7 MP camera with a 1/2.3 BSI CMOS sensor on the rear. The rear camera comes with 10x Optical Zoom, Optical Image Stabilization, a 24-240mm lens with f/3.1. There’s Xenon flash in tow as well. The camera is capable of shooting 1080p videos at 60 fps and there’s slow-motion video capturing capabilities. All the camera features we loved in the Galaxy S5 are present here along with more. There’s fully manual control, a Pro Suggest feature, which offers 5 optimized filter settings. A new Selfie Alarm mode is present, which as the name suggests will let you take timed selfies with ease. There’s a 2 MP front facing camera as well.
The Galaxy K zoom comes with Android 4.4 KitKat along with the latest TouchWiz version we saw in the Galaxy S5. There are all the features like the Ultra Power Saving mode, Kids mode, S Health etc.. There’s a 2,430 mAh battery to keep things running. The connectivity is well covered with 3G, LTE, Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, USB 2.0, NFC, A-GPS + GLONASS in tow. The usual sensors like Accelerometer, Gyro Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Light Sensor are present.
The device was previously rumored to be a lot thinner and it is but not much. The device measures at 137.5×70.8×16.6(20.2)mm, which makes it almost twice as thick as the Galaxy S5. The device weighs in at 200g.
