Samsung has been the one of the leader of cell phone makers in the world. They had launched their own app store; called Samsung Apps for Samsung mobile & TV users. The store first opened in June 2010, after the company released its Samsung Wave smart phone. After 3 months of the launch the store had hit 10 million downloads, and now the store has hit the 100 million mark in just a matter of 10 months and is going stronger. The store has over 13, 000 applications available for download. The most popular apps include Magic Torch, Need for Speed: Shift and Asphalt 5. Other apps including transport and navigation, movie information, and sports information have also been quite popular.
“We are anticipating that Samsung Apps will show a rapid growth in 2011, especially with a variety of the upcoming bada device line-up. Through consistent service improvement and high-quality app selections, we will continue to offer optimised application services for Samsung smart phones,” these were the words of Kang-Hyun Kwon, Senior Vice President of Media Solution Center, Samsung Electronics.
Samsung is launching a weekly prize draw for customers; on the occasion of their 100 million downloads. Each week, anyone who downloads an app from the Samsung Apps will be in the running to receive a Samsung prize. The lucky winners will be selected at random and could walk away with a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Galaxy Player, USB sticks, or vouchers from the Samsung Apps.
