Back in December last year, we heard about Acer launching a $99 tablet called the Iconia B1 and expect the company to unveil the tablet at the upcoming Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2013 in the next few days. And today we are hearing some very interesting tidbit about the tablet.
If sources of NDTV are to be believed then, Acer will launch the tablet in India by the end of January for prospective buyers.
The most interesting part of the news is that Acer plans to make the tablet available for Rs.7,999 which justifies the price tag of $99 unlike the ASUS made Google Nexus 7, which was launched in India for Rs.19,990.
The rumoured specifications of the Acer Iconia B1 include a 7-inch screen with display resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, expected to be powered by a 1.2 GHz dual core MediaTek SoC coupled with 512 MB RAM and PowerVR SGX 531 GPU.
Acer is expected to bring in on-board storage of 8 GB with an option to expand it using a microSD card. The connectivity options include USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a SIM card slot could allow 3G connectivity to users too. The source has allegedly confirmed that the Iconia B1 will launch with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box.
For now, we’ll just wait for a few more days and hope the rumours turn out to be turn. At the price tag of Rs.7,999, the Iconia B1 is surely challenge the likes of Micromax, Karbonn and other Indian OEMs.
