Reliance Retail’s LYF branded smartphones are apparently dominating the Indian smartphone market owing to the ultra-affordable pricing and unlimited free Reliance Jio Welcome Offer. However, the company now seems to plan on entering the feature phone segment.
According to sources, Reliance Retail soon plans on launching ultra-affordable feature phones with 4G support. While the company is yet to confirm the rumours, insiders mentioned that the handsets are aimed at first time users and would be priced between Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1500, making them the cheapest 4G phones in the world.
While there are few details about the 4G feature phones, the handsets are apparently called LYF Easy internally but may release with a different name. The low-cost phones support 4G VoLTE and as such would be able to make free voice calls. The handsets are expected to be launched in the first week of 2017.
