While Samsung has stolen the limelight with its new Galaxy Gear smartwatch, Qualcomm quietly has entered the smartwatch market with its own smartwatch called the Qualcomm Toq.
The Qualcomm Toq smartwatch can be used with Android devices. The watch uses Qualcomm’s low-energy display technology – Mirasol. The battery effective display promises “days of battery life before the device needs to be recharged”. Interestingly, the device doesn’t even have an on/off button as the display will remain on without draining the battery.
The Qualcomm Toq can be used to manage smartphone calls, text messages, meeting reminders and various notifications by linking to any smartphone running Android v4.0.3 and above. The device would use WiPower LE wireless charging technology for charging. The watch would be available in a premium audio edition which will come with a wireless Bluetooth headset that also charges wirelessly.
