Philips is getting serious about the smartphone market. After debuting its budget phones in the market, the company is aiming at a different thing all together – it is aiming to make the world’s thinnest smartphone. The phone called the Philips I908 is a mini version of the 6-inch octa-core Philips I928, which we unfortunately haven’t received in India.
The Philips I908 will come with a 1.7-GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor onboard, a 5-inch 1080p display, 2 GB RAM and a 13-megapixel rear cam. It will take on the current world’s slimmest phone – the Gionee Elife S5.5. If Philips can put in the work for making it as affordable as the S5.5, they might have a winner here.
Philips is currently focusing on the Chinese market currently and India is yet too receive a piece of the pie, when it comes to its high-end and mid-range phones. In my opinion it has a good chance of success with a 5-inch I908 rather than an I928 in the Indian market since the Indian consumer is more adapted to a 5-inch display rather than a 6-inch one.
