Chinese smartphone brand OPPO was expected to launch the OPPO R15 next week on March 31. However, it looks like the company didn’t want to wait that long as it has went on to the launch the OPPO R15 at an event in Beijing, China. That said, the OPPO R15 is not the only smartphone that the company has launched. Alongside the R15, OPPO has also launched the OPPO R15 Dream Edition.
OPPO R15
Let’s talk about the OPPO R15 first. The OPPO R15 looks similar to the iPhone X from the front. That’s because it has a notch up top which is housing the front camera and probably the proximity and ambient sensor.
The R15 features a 6.28-inch Super-V Display which has an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. Well, you might have heard of 18:9 aspect ratio, but here, the R15 has 19:9 aspect ratio. That’s because of the extra space that has been taken up by the notch. And, thanks to this 19:9 aspect ratio screen, the OPPO R15 has a screen-to-body ratio of 90% which is very much impressive.
That said, OPPO has ditched the metal uni-body construction on the R15 and has gone for glass back. You can also see the dual camera setup at the back which is a combination of 16 MP and 5 MP cameras. And, there’s also a fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone in the center above the OPPO moniker.
Having said that, for selfies and video calls, you get a 20 MP camera on the front which also has AI Smart Beauty feature in tow.
Speaking about the innards, the OPPO R15 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P60 SoC which is paired with 6 GB of RAM. The smartphone boots up to Android 8.1 Oreo which is layered with OPPO’s CustomOS 5.0 skin atop.
The smartphone has 128 GB of internal storage, but there’s also a microSD card slot in the phone in case 128 GB of storage doesn’t suffice. The R15 comes in Snow White, Hot Red and Star Purple colors, and, it ships with a 3450 mAh battery which draws power from a micro USB port.
OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition
The OPPO R15 Dream Mirror Edition comes with specs and design that’s similar to that of the regular R15. Like the regular R15, the R15 Dream Mirror Edition also comes with a notch. However, while R15’s back is covered with glass, the R15 Dream Mirror Edition comes with a variant that has a “3D four-curved” ceramic body.
Well, that’s not the only difference between the R15 and R15 Dream Mirror Edition. The R15 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P60 chip, whereas, the R15 Dream Mirror Edition has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chip, albeit with the same amount of RAM.
Furthermore, the dual rear camera setup also differs on both these smartphones. The OPPO R15 features 16 MP + 5 MP camera setup at the back, whereas, the R15 Dream Mirror Edition features a 16 MP + 20 MP camera setup.
Another difference between both these smartphones is that while the R15 comes with Bluetooth 4.2, the R15 Dream Mirror Edition comes with Bluetooth 5.0. Lastly, the battery capacity on both these smartphones is also different. The R15 packs in a 3450 mAh battery while the R15 Dream Mirror Edition ships with a slightly smaller 3400 mAh battery.
