Remember when Nokia made its mapping solution available for iOS in the form of the Here Maps app when the Apple Maps was turning out to be a huge fiasco? Yes that app has now been removed from the App Store.
Nokia has also issued an official statement blaming iOS 7 for the removal, “We have made the decision to remove our HERE Maps app from the Apple App Store because recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience“,. “iPhone users can continue to use the mobile web version of HERE Maps under m.here.com., offering them core location needs, such as search, routing, orientation, transit information and more, all completely free of charge“.
We are not told as to in what way iOS 7 harms the user experience. This might really be the truth of the removal of the app or Nokia just wants its Here Maps experience exclusive for Windows Phone. We would like to remind you that Nokia’s mapping solution will be in Nokia’s control even after the Microsoft’s acquisition.
In any case, i don’t think iOS 7 users will care much because the Here Maps app was buggy unlike the great experience we get on a Windows Phone and although Apple Maps is still not yet up to the mark, there is always the ever reliable Google Maps on iOS.
