We already knew that Google was already working on a refreshed version of the Nexus 7, while we were expecting a simple upgrade in specs, seems like we will see more than that.
According to latest reports, the new version of the Nexus 7 tablet will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor to improve performance. While the current version of the Asus Nexus 7 has a NVIDIA’s Tegra 3, the expected processor in the refreshed version was a NVIDIA Tegra 4/4i SoC.
Apparently Google has preferred a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor over a NVIDIA Tegra 4/4i SoC because it comes with 4G LTE support. Though Tegra 4i chip versions have LTE capabilities, they would be available way after the production of the tablet.
With ASUS and Google preferring Qualcomm, NVIDIA is expected to lose almost eight million processor shipments in 2013. The refreshed version of the Nexus 7 tablet is supposed to be unveiled at the Google I/O developer conference in mid-May. Get ready to hear about more leaks about the new tablet.
