Every year we see some exciting announcements made my the companies during the MWC. It’s a time when the companies show off their latest and greatest. This year’s MWC also concluded with many such announcements made by various companies.
MWC 2016 was held in Barcelona, Spain during February 22 to February 25. If you missed out on any of the news during the MWC, worry not, we got you covered.
LG
LG announced some cool and innovative products this year. The LG G5 was unveiled during the MWC along with some other cool products as a part of LG’s ecosystem.
LG announced the G5 which lets you swap modules in order to get a customized experience. Modules such as the LG CAM Plus and the LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play let you use your phone with the features you want. The G5 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC which is paired with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. It also comes with Dual Camera and features a 2800 mAh removable battery.
Samsung
Samsung announced the highly rumored Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is also powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. The S7 sports metallic design with 3D glass, Hear Rate Sensor and Fingerprint Scanner. The S7 and S7 Edge sport similar specs with difference in screen size and battery. The S7 sports 5.1-inch display with 3000 mAh battery, whereas the S7 Edge features 5.5-inch display with 3600 mAh battery.
Samsung also unveiled the Gear 360. It’s a camera that shoots video in a 360-degree view. The Gear 360 is a sphere shaped camera which is slightly smaller than a tennis ball covering all the area from every angle using two 15 MP cameras having F2.0 wide-angle lens together producing a 30 MP picture (7776 x 3888 pixels) or a 4K video (3840×1920 pixels). HTC
HTC too unveiled its smartphones during the MWC. HTC unveiled the Desire 825 along with Desire 530 and Desire 630 smartphones.
The Desire 825 is an affordable smartphone which has got Snapdragon 400 SoC and 2 GB RAM under the hood. It boasts off a 5.5-inch HD display and packs 2700 mAh battery. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and sports a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera.
The Desire 530 on the other hand is powered by a Snapdragon 210 SoC accompanied with 1.5 GB RAM. It has got a 5-inch HD display along with 8 MP and 5 MP rear and front cameras respectively. It packs 2200 mAh battery and has 8 GB of internal storage. The Desire 630, however, has specs similar to the Desire 825 with difference in screen size and battery.
Lenovo
Lenovo announced the Vibe K5 and K5 Plus smartphones, both of which are company’s latest 4G smartphone offerings.
The Vibe K5 and K5 Plus have similar specs with difference in screen resolution and the processor powering them. The Vibe K5 boasts off a 5-inch display with HD resolution, whereas the K5 Plus has got Full-HD display. The K5 is powered by Snapdragon 415 SoC whereas the K5 Plus has got Snapdragon 616 under the hood. Other specs include 2 GB RAM, 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera, Android 5.1 Lollipop and 2750 mAh battery.
MediaTek
MediaTek announced Helio P20 SoC, a successor to the Helio P10. The Helio P20 features octa-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz and ARM’s Mali-T880 MP2 GPU which is clocked at 900 MHz. It’s also the first SoC to support LPDDR4X (low power double data rate) memory and supports 24 MP single camera or 13+13 MP dual cameras.
Sony
Sony announced its Xperia X, Xperia XA and Xperia Performance during the MWC.
The Xperia XA features a 5-inch edge-to-edge HD display and is powered by Helio P10 octa-core processor which is coupled with 2 GB RAM and Mali-T860 GPU. It sports 13 and 8 MP rear and front facing cameras respectively along with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 2300 mAh battery and 16 GB of internal storage.
The Xperia X and X Performance feature similar specs like 5-inch Full-HD display, 3 GB RAM, 23 MP rear camera, 13 MP front camera and 32 GB internal storage. Both of them differ in processors. The Xperia X is powered by Snapdragon 650 SoC with Adreno 510 GPU, whereas the X Performance has got Snapdragon 820 SoC with Adreno 530 GPU.
Alcatel
Alcatel also joined everyone by announcing the Pop 4, Pop 4+ and Pop 4S.
The Alcatel Pop 4, Pop 4+ and Pop 4S are the company’s latest 4G smartphone offerings. The Pop 4 features 5-inch HD display with Snapdragon 212 SoC and 1 GB RAM along with 8 and 5 MP rear and front cameras. The Pop 4+ on the hand has specs similar to Pop 4, except that it has 5.5-inch display and 1.5 GB RAM. The Pop 4S, however, sports 5.5-inch Full-HD display with Helio P10 SoC and 2 GB RAM along with 13 and 5 MP rear and front cameras. All of these run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Gionee
Gionee announced its flagship smartphone Elife S8 during the MWC.
The Elife S8 is powered by Helio P10 SoC paired with 4 GB RAM. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and packs 3000 mAh battery. It boasts off 5.5-inch Full-HD display along with 16 and 8 MP rear and front cameras.
HP
HP unveiled its Elite x3 phablet which runs on Windows 10.
The Elite x3 is good for business users and is powered by Snapdragon 820 SoC accompanied with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. It boasts off 5.96-inch display along with 4150 mAh battery and comes with features like Iris Scanner, Fingerprint Scanner and Windows Continuum.
Acer
Acer was also not left behind as it launched the Liquid Jade 2 smartphone with high-end specs.
The Liquid Jade 2 comes with specs like Snapdragon 808 SoC, 3 GB RAM, 5.5-inch Full-HD display, 21 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera and 3000 mAh battery. Surprisingly, this smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Panasonic
Panasonic announced its fully rugged Toughpad FZ-F1 and FZ-N1 smartphones.
The Toughpad FZ-F1 runs on Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise OS out of the box, whereas, the Toughpad FZ-N1 runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. Both these rugged smartphones feature same specs except the operating systems. Click here to know more about these Toughpads.
Xiaomi
Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 4S along with the highly rumored Mi 5. The Mi 5 is Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone.
The Mi 4S is a 5-inch smartphone which is powered by Snapdragon 808 SoC paired with 3 GB RAM. It comes with 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera. Click here to know more about the Mi 4S.
