The Motorola Moto X Play which was launched around two years ago with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is finally receiving the Nougat update. However, this isn’t the promised 7.0 update, rather, it’s the 7.1.1 update which is cool as it is better and has more features than 7.0.
As this is a Nougat update, you will get features like bundled notifications, improved Doze mode, multi-window, quick reply and more. Besides, you will also get app shortcuts which is our favorite Nougat feature. Apart from this, the update also comes with Google’s May 1, 2017 security patch for Android and the update will also install Google’s video calling app Duo on your Moto X Play.
This update is rolling out over-the-air, and, if you receive an update notification, just tap on Yes, I’m in > Install now. The update can take a couple of days to reach all the units, however, if you don’t receive a notification or can’t wait for it, you can check for the update manually by going to Settings > About phone > System updates > Yes, I’m in > Install now.
Also, its worth mentioning that after you have updated your Moto X Play with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, you can’t go back to the older version of Android that you have right now. Moreover, it’s highly recommended that you have at least 50% charge in your phone and are connected to a Wi-Fi network to download the update.
Having said that, this might well be the last Android version update that’s being rolled out to Moto X Play, hence, don’t expect to receive Android O or even the Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
