While we just saw the shocking revelation that Nokia was developing Android powered Lumia smartphones before being acquired by Microsoft, now there is news claiming that Microsoft was simultaneously working on a Microsoft Surface Phone.
According to reports, Microsoft had been testing the Surface Phone when Nokia was allegedly working on the Android powered Lumia smartphones. Apparently, Terry Myerson, who manages the Windows, Windows Phone and the Xbox operating systems, was in charge of the Surface Phone and has successfully created prototypes of the device.
While this can be clearly related to the insecurity faced by Microsoft as Nokia, which is the 80 percent user of the platform, was reportedly working on an Android smartphone. Should it have succeeded and dumped the Windows Phone platform, Microsoft phone business could be devastated. This could easily be the main reason Microsoft quickly acquired Nokia thus shutting any attempts to abandon the platform.
