Lenovo’s latest flagship, the Vibe Z was unveiled in India yesterday and we also brought you a few hands-on images earlier and now, we have our first impressions on the device.
As we noted in our hands on, the device feels, looks and works the way a flagship should. The device comes in two colors, gunmetal grey and titanium black. We have the grey device which in my opinion looks better. Every time I see the device, I feel like picking it up, it’s that good. The only issue with the design is the placement of the power button on the top which is a bit difficult to reach but we are sure one can get used to it with time. The 13 MP rear camera on the back is bit protruded but it is a slight protrusion and it will not make holding the device uncomfortable. To sum it up, you will love the design of the device.
The Lenovo Vibe Z comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS LCD display and the display is great with natural colors and pretty good viewing angles. The ppi is 401 so sharpness of the display should not be an issue.
Coming to the interface, Lenovo has heavily customised Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on the device and there is a bit of a learning curve when you’re coming from a different device. The first thing you’ll notice is that there’s no app drawer at all, all the apps are placed right on the homescreen similar to iOS. There are a plethora of customization options so people who like to change every bit of their device will not be bored of the Vibe Z anytime soon after they buy it. Lenovo has also added gesture inputs along with features which should make one-handed use of the device easier. The device feels snappy and fluid all thanks to the 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2 GB RAM. We have had no hiccups in the performance at all. We tried our hand at casual gaming and also graphics intensive games like Asphalt 8 and we found everything running on the Vibe Z butter smooth.
The 13 MP camera on the back has a f/1.8 aperture making sure we get good low light shots and in case you need flash, there’s a dual LED flash as well. We took some casual photos with the device and we found them pretty good. The front facing wide-angle 5 MP camera is surely a surprise. It is a great selfie snapper for sure. Even the camera interface comes with a number of options to play with.
The Lenovo Vibe Z is Lenovo’s first 4G LTE supporting smartphone but sadly, it does not support Indian LTE bands but we have to say Lenovo has done a fine job with the device.
