While Google has just launched the Android One program in India to offer affordable smartphones, Jivi Mobiles has launched the cheapest Android phone till date.
Jivi Mobiles, which is a feature phone manufacturer, has announced the launch of the cheapest Android phone till now, which coincidentally is also the company’s first smartphone. The device has a mere 3.5 inch OGS display with resolution of just 480 x 320 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a very slow single core processor with hardly 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of internal storage.
The Jivi SmartPhone is equipped with a 2 MP rear facing auto focus camera. While we could understand the need to compromise on the hardware to keep the costs low, the company loaded the smartphone with the almost non-existent Android Gingerbread version. Priced at just Rs. 1999, the company boasts that it is the cheapest Android-based smartphone available in India. The handset would be available exclusively on Amazon India.
Speaking about the Jivi SmartPhone, Pankaj Anand, CEO, Jivi Mobiles, said, “The intent was clear. We want to make available a good quality smartphone at an extremely affordable price, we are doing this on very thin margins. This is an entry-level device for those looking to upgrade. This is in sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative.”
