Apple is selling the iPhone 4 unlocked on their online store in the US. Both black and white versions are available. The handset is a quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) device with support for WCDMA 850, 900, 1900 and 2100 MHz bands, so we can expect it to run in India as we have 900/1800 MHz bands.
The 16GB model is priced at $649 (Rs. 29,000/-) and the 32GB version at $749 (Rs. 34,000/-). It does require a Micro-SIM, which can be an issue as Micro-SIMs are not yet available in most of the countries. However, Airtel and more mobile operators are launching Micro-SIMs in India which may be good news for some in India.
With the iPhone 4 recently being officially launched here, we believe that the unlocked and SIM-free version will be hitting the Apple stores soon. We’ll keep you posted if there’s a buzz about it.
