While Indian netizens already complain about the low internet speeds, they soon will start complaining of rising costs as TRAI plans on hiking the fees.
Telecom regulator, TRAI, has proposed to levy a license fees on adjusted gross revenue for all internet service providers in India. The fee, which is currently at 6 percent of the revenue from Internet services minus pass through charges and taxes, is expected to be hiked to 8 percent. However this would definitely result in service providers hiking their rates of internet services.
Speaking about the proposal, TRAI stated, “The Authority does not find any reason to deviate from its earlier consistent position that regulatory framework should ensure level playing field for all licensees for fair competition and to prevent misuse of any terms and conditions of the licence.”
