With the trend shifting from smartphone devices to wearable devices, Intel wants to be in the forefront of the ensuing competition that is just beginning between manufacturing companies.
Intel announced the new line of its Quark processors, which would apparently be used to power up smart watches and other wearable devices. The Quark processors are going to be incredibly small, and power efficient, thus not putting any constraint on the design of the devices. While the samples of the new chip design are expected to be ready by the end of this year, they may find wide use only in the next year.
Speaking about the newly launched Quark processors, Intel CEO Brian Kraznich said, “Smartphones and tablets are not the end-state. The next wave of computing is still being defined. Wearable computers and sophisticated sensors and robotics are only some of the initial applications.”
