While it is a well-known fact that India is a hot market for mobile internet users, the market is said to grow drastically in the year 2014.
According to the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), the number of users in India accessing internet services using their mobile devices is set to reach 155 million by March and would further grow to 185 million by June, which implies a quarter-on-quarter growth of 20 percent. The year 2013 closed with a record 130 million users.
Going in the specifics, the number of mobile internet users in urban India, which is currently pegged at 103 million, is expected to grow to 126 million in March and 153 million in June, thus accounting for the largest share. The mobile internet users in rural India are expected to grow from the existing 27 million to 32 million by June. While the amount of time spent on accessing mobile internet has risen to 45 percent from 43 percent, the average revenue per user has dropped from Rs. 460 to Rs. 387.
