Come January 2012 and India will probably join the League of Nations having the 4G mobile services. Ericsson has been appointed and given the contract for rolling out and maintaining the 4G LTE services of Augere, a UK based company who has won the license to provide the next generation of mobile telephony services in Madhya Pradesh under the Zoosh brand. Bhopal is said to be the first city in India which will experience the LTE service. Other major cities like Raipur and Indore will get the services later on.
Reliance is the only player who has won a pan-India license to provide the 4G services, while Aircel has won licenses in 8 circles. Tikona Wireless will provide these services in 5 circles whereas Airtel and Qualcomm will have their presence in 4 circles respectively. Gear makers have already been in talks with license holders and have been conducting tests with a few service providers and also working hard to work out a sales strategy for dongles and mobile devices for the LTE services.
LTE will surely change the way Indian mobile industry works. Consumers will get super high-speed access on the move. Let’s hope that other license winners also announce their 4G based services and we get to see the launch in many other circles soon.
