Gionee’s latest smartphone Marathon M5 Plus is a refined version of their previous big battery smartphone, Marathon M5. Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is a premium segment smartphone having a large 6.0-inch AMOLED display. You have already noticed the name Plus which indicates that it is sized bigger than the 5.5-inch Marathon M5. With large things we saw on the handset, a 64 GB internal storage, a 5020 mAh battery, and a 6.0-inch screen are what making it different than Marathon M5. What also big in this phablet is a hefty price it holds, it is priced at ₹26,999. We thought to show you how does the smartphone actually look. Here are our hands-on images of this gigantic device.

Gionee Marathon M5 Plus has a gorgeous 6-inch AMOLED display having a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. We initially powered on the device, it responds to the touch very fast, the colours appear to be highly saturated, the brightness levels are great. Talking about the specifications, what powers the device is an octa-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz (MediaTek MT6753 SoC) with 3 GB of RAM and a huge 64 GB of internal storage. The same MediaTek SoC is also available in Coolpad Note 3 launched in October 2015 priced at ₹8,999. We wonder what could be the reason Gionee is selling it about three times the price of that Coolpad phone. Moreover, a massive 5020 mAh battery is under the hood and cannot be replaced. The battery capacity on the Gionee Marathon M5 is slightly higher i.e. 6020 mAh.
Holding the Marathon M5 Plus can be is a bit unusual due to its weight (208 grams) but it’s now slimmer (8.4 mm) compared to Marathon M5 though it doesn’t make any significant difference because it is still heavier. The design is very attractive due to the complete refinement. It exhibits a strong build quality and further having 2.5D curved glass at the edges. I would really appreciate for its build, well done Gionee.
The whole body is made up of metal, excluding the top and bottom area which is made up of plastic. Moving towards the back, it has a 13 MP shooter with an LED flash right below the camera. There’s also a new Gionee moniker on the Marathon M5 Plus and the loudspeakers below support DTS sound. The front camera is a 5 MP shooter. Furthermore, the fingerprint scanner is embedded into the Home button.
The Volume and Power buttons are on the right side. Also, there is a Micro SD tray available. A total of 192 GB storage can be achieved (64 GB internal and 128 GB using MicroSD). On the left side, you have nothing but another tray holding two Micro SIM cards. Hence, you can use two SIM cards along with a Micro SD card.
The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus supports 4G network and it is VoLTE enabled.
Well, IR Blaster isn’t necessary and some people don’t mind, but I would like to have one if this is the price. There is nothing provided on the top while the bottom has a reversible USB Type-C. It could be the USP for Gionee if they also provide the same USB port in their other smartphones. The 3.5 mm stereo headset port and a microphone are also at the bottom. The second microphone is located below the main camera.
For those out there who like a phone with a large and bright display, you may love the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus.
