While Gionee currently holds the record for the thinnest smartphone with the Elife S5.5, the company has now broken its own record with an even thinner Gionee Elife S5.1.
Gionee has unveiled the Gionee Elife S5.1, which is touted to be the thinnest smartphone in the world measuring just 5.15 mm. the handset, which is the successor to the Elife S5.5, has a more refined design and a very compact form factor. The sides of the device are extremely thin but the upper and lower sides are slightly thicker to accommodate the headphone jack and the micro USB port.
The Gionee Elife S5.1 has a reduced display size and resolution of 4.8 inch screen with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. There is however no microSD card slot for memory expansion.
The Gionee Elife S5.1 has an 8 MP rear facing auto focus camera with LED flash. There is also a front facing 2 MP camera. The device runs on the Android Jelly Bean version with a layer of the Amigo 2.0 UI and a 2100 mAh battery. The handset is expected to be launched globally soon.
