Google released the Android N Developer Preview in March and then released the Android N Developer Preview 2 in May which ironed out some bugs from the previous version. Google brought some new features like Multi-Window Support and Direct Reply (or Quick Reply as some may call) with this new iteration of Android.
Only those who own either a Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel C or General Mobile 4G [Android One] can use the Android N Developer Preview right now. Well, obviously those who own any of these devices are enjoying Android N and some of the cool features it has brought along. But, what about those who don’t own any of these devices? Well, they are are in for some treat as they can still get Android N Quick Reply Notification feature on their Android device without having to root it. How? Read on.
How to get Android N Quick Reply Notification feature on any Android device
Step 1: Download the ‘quickReply (Beta)‘ app from Google Play Store.
Step 2: As soon as you open the app, you will be presented with a ‘License Agreement’. Tap on ‘Accept‘ if you want to use this app. After that, tap on ‘PLEASE ACTIVATE QUICKREPLY‘ to activate the quickReply app.
Doing so will take you to the ‘Notification access’ menu where you will have to ‘tick the check box‘ provided against the quickReply app. Tap on ‘Ok‘ when asked for confirmation.
Step 3: Press the back button of your device to go back to the app after you have provided notification access. Tap on ‘LETS START‘, this will take you to the quickReply app.
Tap on ‘Settings‘ and then ‘App settings‘ to choose the apps for which you want to get Android N quick reply notification feature. As soon as you tap on ‘App Settings’, you will be provided a list of apps for which you can get Android N quick reply notification feature. Select the ones you want.
That’s it. You are all set. Whenever you receive a message, you will be provided with three options in the quick reply notification – Reply, Direct, Read.
Tapping on ‘Reply’ will let you type a reply to the message, whereas tapping on ‘Direct’ will let you reply to the message with Yes, No or Ok. However, do keep in mind that the message length is limited in the free version of this app. You will have to buy the Pro version of this app if you want to write messages with unlimited length.
You can also reply from the lock screen itself without having to unlock your phone.
The Quick Reply and Direct Message features work for apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Threema, Skype, Line, WeChat, Kik, EvolveSms, YAATA, Textra, ChompSms, Hangouts and Handcent SMS. Whereas, the Mark As Read feature only works for WhatsApp, Telegram, Threema, Skype, WeChat, Kik and EvolveSms.
