While the touchscreen technology is considered to be the biggest innovation in the smartphone field, a young Goan girl has already taken a step ahead to bring to devices the gesture-recognition technology, which might be the future of how we interact with our phones.
The former BITSian, Andrea Colaco, who is pursuing doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute Technology (MIT), has won the MIT $100K entrepreneurship competition for her innovation which provides real-time, millimetre accurate 3D gesture sensing on devices like mobile phones.
While device manufacturers are already struggling hard to get gesture-recognition into their devices, Andrea took a leap ahead by employing patented signal processing methods to achieve high-quality 3D sensing. With such speedy advancements in technology, it wouldn’t be long before we can interact with our smartphones without even touching it.
