Facebook has announced that its standalone Messenger app has reached 1 Billion active monthly users. Yes, that means 1 Billion people use Facebook Messenger every month.
Facebook’s Messenger isn’t just a chat app anymore. You can send GIFs, play hidden games, make video calls and what not. Facebook Messenger reached 800 Million users in January and 900 Million later in April. This shows that Facebook Messenger is reaching 100 Million more active monthly users every three months. The app has already reached 1 Billion downloads on Google’s Play Store.
Facebook also released some stats. Here they are:
- 380 Million stickers sent everyday with Angry Birds being the most downloaded sticker pack
- 22 Million GIFs sent every day
- Red, Pink and Green are the favorite custom colors
- 1.2 Billion games of Basketball have been played
- 250 Million games of Soccer have been played
- 300 Million flower stickers sent on Mother’s Day
- 360 Million Valentines have been sent
“We’re grateful for all the people who are sending billions of messages every day and we hope to send 1 billion thank yous in the form of a new floating balloon gift that everyone can use to celebrate. Just send a balloon emoji to your friends to add a touch of whimsy and delight to any conversation.” said Facebook.
Whenever you send a balloon emoji, a floating balloon animation will show up in the conversation. Also, besides the stats shown above, Facebook says that Messenger is the second most popular app of all time on iOS. Users have also sent 17 Billion photos every month. The number of messages sent between people and businesses every month also amount to 1 Billion. With these numbers, Facebook Messenger is only going to grow further. We also expect Facebook to add some more features in Messenger as it grows.
By the way, are you one of those 1 Billion active monthly users? Or do you prefer some other app?
