Rumours about mobile phone radiation causing illnesses have been plaguing everyone in the country. In an attempt to bust the myths, a group of health experts have revealed that they are safe.
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has initiated an awareness campaign with a group of health experts and doctors to oust the fears of harmful effects of radiation from mobile phones and towers. This comes in time when various environmental groups, NGOs and activists in India have voiced their concerns over adverse health effects from Electromagnetic Field (EMF) emissions from antennas on cell towers and mobile phones, which has in turn resulted in opposition to setting up new mobile towers.
The doctors and experts on the panel however claimed that the radiation from mobile tower does not produce any kind of significant harm to humans. They claim that the co-relation between the incidence of cancer and telecom towers which is being propagated is completely baseless. However given that the campaign is funded by COAI, there are doubts on whether it is biased to promote the interest of the telecom operators.
