Samsung’s Galaxy S III wooed everybody with its nice specs and design and it was being said that the Android smartphone arrives with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2, which is impact and scratch resistant and today it has been confirmed by Corning itself.
Corning has today in a press release announced that the Galaxy S III comes equipped with the Gorilla Glass 2 which is about 20% thinner than its first iteration but still provides the toughness.
Haeng-Hee Lee, president and general manager of Corning Korea, said:
“We are excited about the introduction of Corning Gorilla Glass 2 because it provides device makers with numerous design benefits without sacrificing toughness. With Corning Gorilla Glass 2, Samsung GALAXY S III customers will enjoy an enhanced smartphone experience.”
We do know that the Gorilla Glass is strong as we have seen it in action on the Nokia Lumia 900 being used as a hammer but then, we also saw yesterday, how a fall from the pocket caused Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2 to crack on the Galaxy S III.
This brings in confusion if the Gorilla Glass is indeed tough or not. We believe it is but then there are a few falls that can make the glass to crack too. So next time you drop your smartphone with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 2, do remember its chances to crack still prevail.
