Whether you own a budget smartphone, a mid-range one or even a high-end one, there will be one persistent thing plaguing you – the need to charge your phone. How would it feel if you charge your phone in just 30 seconds? Awesome, actually. Which is why you need to check out this charger from a firm called StoreDot.
“We are about one year from a functional prototype that will be inside the device. Right now we show a battery that extends beyond the form factor of the smartphone. So in one year we’ll have reached the size, and in two years we’ll reach the required energy density for the entire day. So we are talking about three years for a commercial ready device. So I assume it will be three years before you can actually purchase it on the market.” states StoreDot’s CEO and founder Dr. Doron Myersdorf.
StoreDot has developed this charger for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and claims that chargers for other smartphones are in the pipeline. The company demonstrated the charger at Microsoft’s Think Next conference in Tel Aviv. The charger will cost up to $30 and will release commercially only in 2016. The prototype showcased at the event was big and bulky, but the company promises that the charger will undergo a design revamp before it hits the shelves.
Check out this video of how it works.
While the charger is only a prototype right now, we have high hopes from the future. If this goes live, even in two years’ time, I am surely lining up for one.
