In what may be considered as a very novel initiative, BSNL has distributed 5000 SIM cards in the flood affected areas of Kashmir without any documentation.
BSNL has revealed that it has distributed as many as 5000 free SIM cards in the flood affected parts of the Kashmir valley without requiring any ID proof in attempt to keep the affected people connected to their friends and family. The SIM will however be valid till the end of next and can be used to make free calls in the meanwhile.
Following the government orders, private operators are also expected to join in and distribute free SIM cards. While some operators are offering free talk time, others are offering talk time on loan besides an increased credit limit.
Speaking about the initiative, Anupam Shrivastava, Director for Consumer Mobility, BSNL, said, “Government had approved distribution of 5,000 SIM cards without any ID proof. Government’s priority is to save lives there without any discrimination. The offer is still on and will go on for some time.”
