While hot on the announcement that the BlackBerry 10 OS will be launched on January 30th, 2013 Research in Motion (RIM) has today announced an important update for its popular BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) taking it to version 7.
BBM version 7 brings in a new feature called BBM Voice which will let users to make instant calls to other BBM users over Wi-Fi anywhere in the world.
All that the users have to do is simply tap the call button and you’ll start a voice call – that simple. The app will carry a visual indicator which will show BBM users which contact is available for a voice call.
BBM version 7 arrives with the split-screen feature that allows customers to talk and text at the same time, for example, they can send a picture to their contact while talking with them. They can also check other BBM text chats, check email, or navigate to other apps while engaged on a BBM Voice call.
The app now provides a visual indicator showing users which contacts are available for a voice call. Another important feature of BBM version 7 is its integration with a customer’s BlackBerry ID, which can be used to back up their BBM profile, groups and contacts so they can automatically be restored in the event they switch to a new BlackBerry smartphone.
If you are itching to try the new feature, you can download the app from BlackBerry Beta Zone. Please note that you’ll need to sign up for the Beta Zone if you aren’t a member yet.
