We all know that Apple loves to pull its competitors into the courtroom for allegedly infringing on its patents but this time around a court in E. Texas has ordered Apple to pay $ 368.2 million in damages for infringing on patents held by a company called VirnetX.
The news comes in from Bloomberg which revealed that VirnetX had sued Apple for infringing on its collection of network patents which Apple has been accused of using in its products like FaceTime.
Initially, VirnetX was seeking damages worth $900 million from Apple but the Jury went on to decide for a lesser amount and has now asked Apple to cough up $368.2 million.
Back in May 2010, VirnetX had forced Microsoft to pay up $200 million for infringing on two of its patents, so the company is not new to suing tech giants who infringe on its patents. Also, the company has cases pending against companies like Cisco and Avaya in the court of law.
Back in August, Apple has won a major case against Korean giant Samsung, where the court had ordered Sammy to pay $1.05 billion in damages for infringing on Apple’s patent.
