Angry Birds Space, the next instalment of the ever popular game Angry Birds has just arrived on almost all the platform except Symbian and Windows Phone. The Symbian version will arrive soon but the Angry Birds Space will not arrive for the Windows Phone devices.
Peter Vesterbacka, Chief Marketing Officer of Rovio Entertainment, the maker of the game broke this news in an interview to Bloomberg Television.
Peter Vesterbacka said, “We’re the No. 1 app in the Windows Phone app store, but it’s a big undertaking to support it, and you have to completely rewrite the application.” So for now (and almost the very far future) Rovio has no plans to release Angry Birds Space on the Windows Phone platform.
Now this may come as a huge blow to Nokia who has taken up the Windows Phone platform for the rest of its future devices as Angry Birds is ever popular and the game not being available on the Windows Phone platform may force some users to not opt for its devices.
Now Vesterbacka went on to say that Rovio is not bringing the Angry Birds Space also because of operational costs. He said,
“We want to be on all screens, but we have to consider the cost of supplying the smaller platforms. With Windows Phone it’s a lot of work to technically support it.”
Now this is a very weird statement to make as Rovio has a lot of reserve and can definitely afford to pay its developers to rewrite the coding for Windows phone devices. There is definitely something fishy in this case. Is it that as Rovio has tied up with Samsung to release the game with some exclusive content on its Galaxy range of devices that it is ignoring Windows Phone because Nokia is a part of it? You never know.
For now we only know that Angry Birds Space is not coming to Windows Phone. Hard luck folks!
