The On-net tariff war is heating up the mobile space these days as we have seen operators like Tata Docomo, Uninor launch free On-net calling schemes in Maharashtra. Aircel has come up with a truly unlimited plan for On-net calling which is priced at Rs.77 and valid for 30 days. Before you get too excited, here is the catch, free calling benefit is only applicable to any TWO aircel numbers of Maharashtra and Goa (including Mumbai). However we can change the numbers as many times we want within the validity of the pack. Number selection will be charged at Rs.7 per number( max two numbers).
Plan details:
- E-recharge with Rs.77 and get unlimited free calling to any two Aircel numbers in Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa.
- After recharging, call 123 and follow the steps on IVR for number selection
- Subscriber will be charged Rs.7/number.
- Subscriber can change the numbers anytime they want by just calling 123 and following the procedure mentioned in IVR with a charge of Rs.7/number
- There will be no change in off-net, STD and SMS tariff.
This scheme is a good attempt to give affordable On-net free calling benefit without any fair usage policy. However this scheme would have given tough competition to Videocon Mobile’s Rs.59 truly unlimited scheme had they given free calling benefit to every Aircel number. The coverage of Aircel in Maharashtra is just average despite their presense in Maharashtra for more than a year now. Maybe Aircel should concentrate more on building a strong network because it plays a very major role in aquiring a strong subscriber base.
