Known for its Television products and DTH services in India, Videocon has also entered into the smartphone market with its budget phones trying to compete with the Chinese brands.
On looking at the phone, it’s a smaller sized 5-inch handset, light-weight (142.5 grams) and compact. It has a nice golden rim on the sides. The phone is currently available in Royal Blue color.
There is a 13 MP autofocus camera on the back covered with Corning Gorilla Camera Lens. The camera uses Samsung ISOCELL and comes with a dual LED flash. Furthermore, it can record up to 720p video which is mediocre nowadays. On the front side, there is a 5 MP camera with a LED flash. Smartphone rarely offers a front LED flash, however, Krypton 3 has it, plus one to it.
The handset is VoLTE enabled and supports 4G LTE network. Upon removing the back cover, you can insert two Micro SIM cards and a MicroSD card. The phone has a 16 GB internal storage which can be further extended using MicroSD up to 64 GB.
Despite being a plastic, the phone feels solid in the hands. It has a strong Dragontrail glass on the front having 2.5D curved edges. Though, the whole body is a fingerprint magnet. The reflective back cover can be removed for further removable of the battery. The handset sports a 3000 mAh battery.
I didn’t fancy the power and volume rocker buttons. Their placement is quite unusual. On the right side, the top button is actually a power button and the lower button bar is the volume control. You have to reach your thumb to the top to power on the device. I am comfortable with it since my Moto X 1st generation has the same button configuration. For the others, I am not sure about it.
A 3.5 mm stereo jack is provided on the top and a microphone and Micro USB is at the bottom. We haven’t found a second microphone while many smartphones in this price range offer another one.
Krypton 3 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and features a number of gestures. Gestures such as double tap on the screen to wake up, drawing O for torch, M for music, and C for camera. All the gestures can be changed to various functions in the settings.
Videocon Krypton 3 features V-Safe, V-Secure, EROS Now. The handset offers a 6-month free premium subscription of Eros Now entertainment package. The box contains an EROS now coupon which can be redeemed at EROS Now website. While the V-Safe and V-Secure are 30 days free subscription. The V-Secure deals with the mobile security while V-Safe is for mobile safety emphasizing SOS app. In addition to that, the phone also offers Gameloft Games, Opera Mini browser, SwiftKey keyboard, and Office suite as preinstalled apps.
For the performance, the MediaTek MT6735 is an entry level SoC and its 1.3 GHz quad-core processor should handle usually all the basic tasks along with its 2 GB RAM. However, the Chinese smartphones have been in the market with their best offerings and more stuff for the price as compared to what Videocon Krypton 3 offers here.
