Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has a benchmark for regarding call drops and all mobile operators are to meet its mark. However the Government today said that companies Idea Cellular, Etisalat and state-owned BSNL subscribers are facing the problem of frequent call drops and are not meeting these benchmarks. The parameters laid down by TRAI says that a telecom network is considered as “worst affected cells” if more than 3 per cent of phone calls are not complete.
The Minister of State for IT and Communications Sachin Pilot told the Lok Sabha in a written reply, “As regard the parameter (laid down by TRAI with regard to call drops)…BSNL, Etisalat and Idea are not meeting the prescribed benchmark.”
With huge competition and over 100 million users of cell phone, India needs efficient mobile operators, and results like these can seriously put a bad impression on a company.
