Last month the NSA-proof smartphone called Blackphone was revealed. As expected, the handset was released at the ongoing Mobile World Congress.
Geeksphone, known for their Firefox OS smartphones, along with Silent Circle partner to launch the Blackphone, which has a host of privacy tools to protect the user. The phone runs on an Android derivative called the PrivatOS and comes bundled with Silent Circle’s app suite for encrypted calls, messages and contacts, besides secure cloud storage and tools to remotely wipe and restore the device.
The Blackphone has a 4.7 inch HD display and is powered by a 2 GHz quad core processor along with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The phone is equipped with an 8 MP rear facing camera and a 3 MP front facing camera. It also has 4G LTE support. The handset is priced at $629 unlocked.
Speaking about the Blackphone, Toby Weir-Jones, GM, Blackphone, said, “We’ve never made the claim we’re offering an NSA-proof device, but we are offering a tool that makes a huge difference to someone who’s using no privacy tools at all.”
