WhatsApp users are already able to send GIFs to each other using the app’s in-built GIF search that relies on Giphy. However, the company seems to be working on making it easier for its users to access GIFs as it has introduced new features to its Android app.
The beta version 2.18.93 of WhatsApp for Android brings some new GIF features that make searching and sending GIFs to your friends much easier. WhatsApp has added new tabs to its GIF section that categorizes GIFs into Lol, Love, Sad, Happy and Dancing. There’s also a tab labelled ‘Trending’ which will show all the GIFs that are trending at a given moment.
That said, there’s one more tab in the GIF section that appears with a star. Well, this tab will show you all the GIFs that have been starred by you. This will help you access your favorite GIFs quickly. It’s similar to the Starred Messages feature that has been around for a couple of years now.
These features have been introduced in WhatsApp’s beta version 2.18.93 for Android, and, are currently unavailable to non-beta users. However, according to WABetaInfo, even those who are on the beta version may not able to see these features yet as they are still in development.
