Last year in October, Japanese tech giant Sony launched the Sony Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus smartphones in India which are exclusive to the Indian market. Both these smartphones were launched with Android Nougat on-board, and now, after more than five months from the launch, the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus are finally receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update.

Sony India through its Twitter handle has announced the roll-out of the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Xperia R1. However, both the Xperia R1 and R1 Plus only differ in terms of RAM count and the amount of internal storage, hence, the owners of Xperia R1 Plus should also be receiving the Oreo update on their units.
As this is an Oreo update, it brings along some new features to the Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus like Picture-in-Picture Mode, Notification Snoozing, Autofill Framework, and more.

The Android 8.0 Oreo update for Xperia R1 and R1 Plus is rolling out over-the-air, hence, it should take at least a week or so to reach all the units. And, if you don’t get the update notification even after that, you can check for the update manually by heading over to the Settings menu.
