Smartphones have forever been going through a long transition in terms of processors. From just having a single core processor, they have gone on to dual-core and then quad-core processors. The new fad is smartphones with octa-core processors.
To think that it would be possible to accommodate so many cores in the teeny-tiny body of a smartphone was inconceivable some years ago. But, that is how the smartphone industry functions – you will never know what new and unimaginable stuff will prop up on smartphones tomorrow. Octa-core processors are right up that alley.
Now that I have gushed about them all I could, How about what octa-core processors really do? Are they just marketing hype or do they actually perform better than quad-core processors?
True, the smartphone industry is an industry where everyone tries to cash in by building on a trend, but octa-core processors are more than hype actually. A great smartphone is all about optimization, which is why having a Moto G beats having a HTC Desire 501. Since smartphones now do a lot of stuff simultaneously, the processor needs to pick up the load. Having more cores makes the smartphone capable of better, faster multitasking and makes it more responsive.
